Land Trust 101: Board & Committees

The ARCH-LUC committee makes it a priority to meet outside—and picnic—once each year. Last year they enjoyed a beautiful evening at CPF’s Fenner Conservation Pond property.

At the heart of CPF’s work is a dedicated Board of Directors whose leadership guides the organization’s mission and impact. Board members oversee financial stewardship and fundraising, support program development, plan for the future, and serve as ambassadors for CPF within the community.

As is the case in small nonprofits, CPF board service extends far beyond governance—members serve on committees and literally roll of their sleeves to carry out the organization’s work. In addition to board members and staff, several committees also include community volunteers who provide valuable expertise and perspective.

Architectural Preservation & Land Use

This committee evaluates potential land and easement acquisitions to ensure they align with CPF’s conservation goals, and makes recommendations to the Board about pursuing specific conservation projects. Members also periodically update CPF’s strategic land conservation plan and monitor local planning initiatives and proposed projects that are under munipical review to determine when CPF may wish to provide input on mission-related topics.

Development & Community Engagement

This committee leads CPF’s fundraising and outreach efforts. Members establish annual development goals, assist with events and campaigns, and build relationships that strengthen community support. Their work helps raise awareness of CPF’s mission while growing an engaged network of members, donors, partners, and sponsors.

Land Stewardship

This committee supports the care and maintenance of CPF’s conserved lands and public spaces. Members and volunteers assist with trail maintenance, habitat management, invasive species control, infrastructure repairs, and other projects that protect and enhance CPF’s natural and recreational resources.

Community involvement is essential to CPF’s success. If you are interested in contributing your professional expertise, skills, or passion for conservation through committee service, please contact CPF Executive Director at jwong@cazpreservation.org.
