Honoring a Legacy—Pringle Symonds

CPF is proud to recognize Legacy Circle Founding Member Pringle Hart Symonds, whose lifelong commitment to preservation continues to inspire our work today.

Roots in the Community

Born in Cazenovia, Pringle’s early years were shaped by travel as part of a Navy family. She went on to graduate from Radcliffe College, earn a master’s degree in library science from Simmons College, and build an impressive career at Harvard University Library and the Library of Congress. After she and her husband, John, married in 1963, they moved to Annapolis, Maryland, where Pringle worked with the Historic Annapolis Foundation before eventually returning to Cazenovia in 1989.

Shaping CPF’s Path

Pringle quickly became a driving force at CPF. She joined the Land Use Committee in 1990 and served on the Board of Directors for many years, including as Board President from 2010 to 2012. Her leadership and dedication were recognized in 1999 with CPF’s Robert C. Webster Award. She was also instrumental in the Cazenovia Area Planning Project, which helped to shape the community we know today.

Land Trusts & Legacy Gifts

Just as importantly, Pringle was an early champion of legacy giving—recognizing that CPF’s work is not just for today, but forever. Legacy giving aligns long-term, permanent conservation goals with a donor’s desire to leave a lasting impact, often enabling the protection and stewardship of land for future generations.

Legacy giving allows individuals of all income levels to make significant, and sometimes transformational, gifts to support land conservation that may not be possible during their lifetimes, thus ensuring that the natural areas they love are protected permanently.

Support CPF Now and in the Future

Right now, CPF is offering a special legacy gift incentive. When you become a Legacy Circle Member today, your planned gift will also have an immediate impact. Thanks to the generosity of CPF Vice President Craig Buckhout and his wife Carol, every new legacy commitment will unlock an immediate $1,000 gift to CPF’s operating fund—up to $15,000.

Simply let us know that you have included CPF in your estate plans; no additional details are required.

A legacy gift is a simple, flexible way to give—one that doesn’t impact your finances today but creates lasting benefits for generations to come. As Pringle understands so well, it’s a meaningful way to care for the future of a place you love.

Making a legacy gift can be surprisingly simple. Visit our website for details: cazpreservation.org/planned-giving.
