National Trails Day

CPF invites you to join in celebrating National Trails Day. We will be hosting events throughout the day on our trails. Whether you are a birdwatcher, aspiring poet, seasoned hiker, or are just looking for a relaxed nature walk followed by good conversation and a cold drink, there’s something for everyone.

Schedule of Events

8:00 a.m. Trail Project Work-a-Thon. Location: Gorge Trail.
Roll up your sleeves and join CPF staff and fellow volunteers, including members of the Cazenovia High School Class of 2027 to spruce up one of our popular trails. Meet at St. Peter's Episcopal Church (10 Mill Street) to collect tools and head out to various trail locations.

8:30 a.m. Bobolink Birding Walk. Start/end at Burlingame Trail Parking Lot.
Join avid birder and former CPF board president, Jim Steinberg, to catch a glimpse of meadow-nesting birds—including the bobolinks—at Burlingame meadow.

The following events start and end at Meier’s Creek Brewing Company. Location: 33 Rippleton Rd., Cazenovia NY

1:00 p.m. 7-Mile Hike. Lace up your hiking shoes and join CPF’s executive director, Jen Wong, and explore the full Burlingame Trails network, including Fairchild Hill, Sherman’s Gulch, Rod’s Pond, and Atwell’s Knoll.

1:00 p.m. Poetry Writers’ Workshop. Join Cazenovia High School English teacher Wendy Everard for a guided writing workshop. Poets and writers will be offered some guided writing prompts with a break for an inspiring walk between writing sessions. Bring your phone/laptop/tablet or your favorite journal and pen. The deadline to enter CPF's Poetry on the Trail Contest is June 20.

2:45 p.m. Cazenovia Pride Hike. Celebrate inclusivity on the trail! LGBTQIA+ community members and allies are invited to hike Fairchild Hill, visit the old railroad turntable, and take in stunning lake views. Hike leader: CPF board member, Jim Dungey.

3:30 p.m. Fairchild Hill Stroll. Looking for something low-key? Enjoy a relaxed walk up Fairchild Hill and take in the beauty of our local landscape. Guide: CPF board member, Chuck Stormon.

4:00 p.m. Hikers’ Happy Hour. Meet up at Meier’s Creek Brewing Co. to enjoy a BOGO draft beer special and connect with fellow hikers and volunteers. Look for the CPF tent!
