Originally scheduled on Saturday, Feb. 7th, due to severe weather, we RESCHEDULED this event to February 14th.
CPF thanks Chary Griffin and Cindy Haaf Murphy of Berkshire Hathaway Homeservices for sponsoring the Lantern-Lit Snowshoe Hike!
Registration:
Online registration is now closed. You will still be able to register in-person at the event. All adults must fill out this form for themselves and their minor children, prior to participating in the event.
Event Details:
In order to find parking, check in, and gear up, we recommend that you arrive by 4:30 p.m.
All participants will walk together with CPF guides for about 15-20 minutes to the top of Fairchild Hill. Hikers can then choose to:
(1) hike directly back down the hill to Meier’s Creek;
(2) join a CPF guide for a hike around the Fairchild Hill Upper Loop Trail—and roast heart-shaped marshmallows at our bonfire—before heading back down the hill; or
(3) join a CPF guide for a longer hike on the adjoining Burlingame Trails.
After the hike, warm up at Meier's Creek Brewery with a $20 all-you-can-eat buffet (downstairs), opt for hot cocoa and chili, or order from the regular menu (upstairs) . You can also try a "FROSTY" — a crystal clear pilsner with light floral hops and a semi-sweet biscuit finish. Only available after snowshoe events, this brew is $8 with $1 donated per pour is donated to support CPF's conservation efforts.
Lanterns:
While you’re not required to make or bring a lantern to join the hike, it’s definitely a fun way to enhance the experience. Please note, for safety reasons, no glass or flames are allowed on the trails, so be sure your lantern is safe for outdoor use. Add a small bell or chime to your lantern for a festive touch!
Snowshoes:
If you were hoping on borrowing snowshoes, but were not able to reserve a pair, you still have a couple options:
1) Join us for a winter hike instead. Depending on snow conditions, snowshoes may not be necessary. If the trails have minimal snow or are well packed, you’re welcome to participate wearing snow boots. Please note that if snow is deep and you are breaking through the surface (“post-holing,” in trail lingo), it can be uncomfortable for you and damaging to trail conditions for other users.
2) Attend a Snowshoe Sunday. Snowshoe Sundays are held on the 2nd and 4th Sundays of January, February, and March, and we currently do have snowshoes available for those dates.
If you are new to snowshoeing, be sure to read our Snowshoe FAQs.
BONUS—Pre-Hike Sleigh Rides:
On Saturday, February 14th from 1-4 p.m., you can enjoy free horse-drawn sleigh rides between Meier's Creek Brewing Co. and Lorenzo State Historic Site. Provided by Lamplit Farm & Heeler Haven Farm and sponsored by Meier’s Creek and Lorenzo State Historic Site. No reservations are necessary, just show up!
