National Trails Day

June 4, 2022

Each year, on the first Saturday in June, CPF celebrates National Trails Day. This year’s event will take place at the Gorge Trail Gateway, CPF’s Signature Project Site at Buyea’s Hardware Store Parking Lot entrance to the Gorge Trail. The Gorge Trail Gateway will be an important Albany Street access to the Gorge Trail providing the public with a beautiful place to enjoy the sights and sounds of Chittenango Creek right in the center of the village. The project will also improve pedestrian safety, trailside amenities and erosion control.

Join us from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. for a volunteer trail stewardship project, guided hikes, the unveiling of the 2022 Poetry on the Trail Exhibit, and a pulled pork BBQ lunch prepared by the Cazenovia Mason’s Lodge. We’ll also be honoring the hard work of our stewardship volunteers that day. If you logged volunteer hours for CPF in 2021 or 2022, we encourage you to stop by and select your complimentary CPF t-shirt!

Meet CPF Board members and staff and learn more about CPF’s ongoing project work and plans for the site. You can also meet representatives from the local chapter of the North Country Trail Association as we work together to build greater awareness about this important recreational trail in the heart of our community.

Many Cazenovia residents and visitors, even some who regularly hike, run, bike and ski our local trails, don’t realize that CPF’s Gorge Trail is a section of the North Country National Scenic Trail. This 4,800-mile trail stretches across eight states, from North Dakota to Vermont, making it the longest national trail.
