Is your family looking for ways to get outside together, get some exercise and make a positive impact in your community? Consider signing up for a CPF Family Trail Project!

Volunteers are so important in assisting with the ongoing maintenance of the 13+ miles of CPF trails in Cazenovia. Typically, CPF offers several volunteer work day events each spring when groups of people come together to help with these tasks. This year, we’re doing things a little differently…

CPF’s Conservation Manager, Judy Gianforte, has prepared a list of projects on CPF trails and properties that need to be addressed this season. Some of these projects are appropriate for small families with young children. Others are better suited to families with strong teenaged children, access to some basic tools and a little trailwork experience… and there’s everything in between! Interested families can discuss available options with CPF staff to choose a project best suited to their situation and, after receiving instructions, can complete the work independently at a time that is convenient for their family group.

Examples of projects include:

  • Branch clipping/trimming along trails
  • Maintaining trail markers
  • Trail drainage improvements

Upon selection of a project, families will be provided with a description of the task, map and/or digital photos showing specific work to be completed, a list of tools required and an estimate of the required time to complete. In some cases, a short orientation visit from a CPF staff person might be needed before your family can begin work on your project; if so, all parties would be expected to follow social distancing protocol in place at the time of the site visit.

Projects are available starting now and the program will run until August 31, 2020.

As projects are completed, we’ll be asking families to send us their worksite photos for upload to the Family Trail Projects Slideshow on the CPF website and social media feeds.

Volunteer hours available for high school students.

NOTE: ALL VOLUNTEERS UNDER THE AGE OF 18 MUST BE ACCOMPANIED BY A PARENT OR RESPONSIBLE ADULT WHILE CONDUCTING TRAIL WORK PROJECTS.
