Cazenovia Trails: Historic and Healthy! Wednesday, May 29
7:30 – 9 pm Cazenovia Library Community Room
Within the Town of Cazenovia there are about 20 miles of public use trails available year-round. In this collaborative presentation, CPF, the CNY Chapter-North Country Trail Association and Stone Quarry Hill Art Park trails will be highlighted. Find out where they are, where to park, allowed uses and some history and stories of the trails. CACDA will also update us on their development of exciting interactive maps of Cazenovia trails.
National Trails Day® Scavenger Hunt Saturday, June 1
9 am to 2 pm Pick up maps at Carriage House, St. Peter’s Church, 12 Mill St., Caz.
Grab some friends or the whole family and follow the map on this National Trails Day to collect clues from 10 spots along a variety of Cazenovia trails. Pick up your map from the Carriage House or print it off online the day of the event. When you complete your clues each group can claim a prize. All clues are on easy to moderate trails. Some geocache options may also be available.
Eurocar Historic Driving Tour Saturday and Sunday, June 15-16
Afternoon Saturday and all day Sunday Lorenzo State Historic Site
The Underground Railroad, one room schoolhouses, wind turbines and views of over 50 miles….Explore the scenic, historic and cultural landmarks of the Cazenovia area through this interpretive route prepared for the Eurocar classic car show at Lorenzo. A descriptive pamphlet with directions and route map can be picked up at the show, or found on the CPF website immediately before the event. Take the tour on your own, or join others for a fun hour of discovery.
Full Moon Hike Saturday, June 22
7:30 – 9 pm Meet at Burlingame Trail parking area 1 mile west of Route 13
The moon will light our way as we walk together through field and woods, listening for the creatures of the night and looking for phosphorescent fungi. Walk will be held even if there is cloud cover. Call 877-1742 to confirm if raining.
Story Time in the Willow Patch Saturday, July 13
10 am – Noon Meet at Cazenovia Library Community Room
Children ages 5-8 and their parents, grandparents or caregivers will meet in the Library Community Room and walk to the Willow Patch where stories about wetland animals will be shared. The group will then take a short walk on the trail loop. Co-sponsored by the Cazenovia Public Library.

CPF’s Photo Archives – A Sorting Party Thursday, July 18
2- 4 pm Cazenovia Library Community Room
CPF files hold hundreds of old photographs of open spaces, historic sites and CPF activities, some dating from the 1970’s! Come help us identify and tell stories about people and places that made Cazenovia the community it is today.
Discover the Pond! Saturday, August 3
10 am – noon Stone Quarry Hill Art Park Secret Garden
Ponds teem with plant and animal life. Join us as we get our hands dirty and explore the Secret Garden Pond with naturalist Amy Kochem in search of tadpoles, salamanders, bugs, and all kinds of critters. We will provide collecting equipment. For kids of all ages – 2 to 100!
Lehigh Valley Railroad Saturday, August 24
10 am – noon New Woodstock Depot, Railroad St.
The Lehigh Valley Railroad was built to bring coal from the Pennsylvania mines to the north country and Buffalo, NY. John Taibi will be our guide with a short presentation and walk on this railroad which ran through New Woodstock and Cazenovia until 1967. The New Woodstock Regional Historical Society depot museum will be open for visitors as part of this event.
Fish and Invertebrate Seining Saturday, September 21
1 – 3pm Meet in State parking area at south end of Cazenovia Lake
What animals live in the waters of Cazenovia Lake? Come get in the water with Cazenovia College’s Thad yorks and use 50 foot long seines to temporarily capture and observe fish and invertebrates from the shallow near-shore waters. Wear some old shorts and sneakers and bring a towel or two for the ride home. Children under 14 must be accompanied by an adult.
Community Willow Sculpture Installation Saturday, September 28
10am – 2 pm Willow Patch off Mill St. in village of Cazenovia
Cazenovia’s Willow Patch has a long history of providing material for the central New York basket-making industry. Participants will help artist Elizabeth Schoonmaker install and finish a large, interactive willow sculpture she made from Cazenovia willows to celebrate this history.
